DivX is a video codec. AVI is a file format.. If I understand correctly the dreamcast divx player requires a sperate video only divx AVI file and a seperate mp3 file for the audio..

I do not however know very much about the dreamcast divx player.. as I do not have a dream cast.

I have heard that this works best:
Source Type: NTSC 320x240 29.97Fps
Software Version: Alpha 3Video Codec: Divx4/Xvid 500kbps
Audio Codec: MP3 44.1Khz mono 56Kbps

Neko has written a tutorial for this.. You can download it here: ********interface.darktech.org/files/DcDivxAI1.exe

not all .avi files are divX. Some are just uncompressed, and some use all sorts of different codecs.

hi y2flyy,
this is an extract from a codec page:-

The AVI file is defined by Microsoft. It is the most widely used audio/video format on Windows platforms. However it is not at all the easiest file to play. Because it is not compressed with one specific codec, rather it is a file that can be compressed (or completely uncompressed) with any one of hundreds of codecs (examples: DivX, MPEG-4v2, Indeo 3.2, I263, Cinepak etc.).

One more point. DivX can also be used in OGG and MP4, also soon MCF when it is finished... It does not have to be used in AVI files.
