i just got a new type c laser for my v3 magic 3.1 ps2, and this new type c laser will not read my backups it will only read dvd/cd originals not backups.
my old type b laser had no probs reading backups till it went bad.

Type c lasers are supposed to be for v5+

Might be incompatible. You can try to adjust the laser height as this might be the reason it won't read. The white cog in the back of the drive adjusts the height, it's takes a some time to get it perfect, remember to mark your original starting postition on the cog with a black marker for reference.
