Default Adding USB ports - Help Needed

sponsored links

Hi,
I have 2 USB ports on my pc, which I use for my printer & broadband router.
I have now got a digital camera & a mp3 player which I have to connect via USB, which means unpluging the printer etc.
I have seen USB hubs in the stores. Forgive me for being a bit slow on this, but can I get a hub which plugs into one of my existing USB ports and gives me extra ports to plug all the devices into the pc without swapping the leads etc. If so, what kind should I buy, and what kind of price should I be paying.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Yes, you can buy a hub which will take up one USB slot, but will give you a number of ports you can use (like a powerboard for example)

Or, you can buy a PCI card (I'm assuming this is a desktop PC) which will add extra ports.

Either aren't expensive, and are made in many different brands.

As far as price, it depends on how many ports they have.

What I did recently was to get one of these enclosures that fits into either a 3 1/2" or 5 1/4" drive bay so that I get the extra ports at the front.

Ideally you'd connect these to headers on the motherboard but this one connects to one of the exist ports at the back, although you can get PCI cards that have 1 "internal" connection to which this can connect. Here's a [URL=***********.autdirect.co.uk/acatalog/USBHubs.html]link to the one I got - it's the Trust 420F.
