Default printer cable question

sponsored links

i just bought a new printer. the shop assistant said to me "you will need a usb cable, have u got one?" to which i replied "yes" (coz i have).
when i got home, unpacked the printer etc, my usb cable doesnt fit the printer. its a totally different shape, almost square. so are their different types of usb cable? and wots the name/type of printer cable i need?
and where can i get one cheap?
any help would be much appreciated.
thanx

The C42UX should uses a standard A-B cable, where one end (flat rectangle) goes into the PC, and a square shape into the printer, these are pretty standard for USB printers.

Anywhere like PC-World or Comet should sell these, as well as Staples.

A standard usb cable has an A type plug on one end (flat) & a B type plug on the other (square). This should be what you need for your printer.

There are variations that are used for extending cables e.g. type A plug to type A socket.

There are also some proprietary cables that have a micro B type plug.
These are made for various cameras etc that require a small connector.
You won't be offered one of these in your local computer store.
