My question is... how do you overclock a AMD Athlon XP 1700+?... is it hard and do i have to do anything to the processor itself?... ive been lookin on the web for a how-to... but i could really seem to find an updated one for this processor or this series of processor...

do i just use some programs and change the stuff... or do i have to mess around w/ the processor... im hoping i only have to mess around w/ some programs ^_^ heh

Usually, you should be able to overclock through the BIOS. If the option is not available there, you'll need to do it through DIP switches on your motherboard. But note, you won't get much overclockability off an AMD processor without adequate cooling. They run extremely hot as compared to an Intel.

I think you have to unlock it with a AMd processor, also, unless you have a self built computer, you can't overclock it. Ex. Dell, HP, Gateway, Compaq can't be overclocked.

If you are going to overclock, first thing I would do is take gambit_360s advice and get the best heatsink & fan cooler for CPU you can from Overclockers, then work on overclocking the CPU, you may know this but dont forget the thermal compound
