Default how much can i overclock?

Hi!
i just got a AMD xp 1800, 1.15 gig, 256 ram from a friend..i wanna over clock it..i manage to clock it till 1.67 but when ever i try to overclock more moniter doesnt turn on..am preety much new to overclocking stuff..Could some one plz guid me on this..how much more can i overclock? also..is it safe to overclock if the temp of the cpu is good, or can the cpu still get damage even tho the temp isnt High?

I used to have the XP1800, and I was able to overclock it to be an XP2200, althought I just ran it down at around XP2000/2100 to keep reasonable temperatures. This was done with a Soyo Dragon Platinum KT400 motherboard.

You never mentioned which board you had, some are easier/better to use than other ones, nor what type of RAM you had. Go ahead and post that info if you know it.

i dont know much about this pc..i opend it up n on the motherboard it says MSI...How can i find which board do i have?

i downloaded CPU-Z and i got more info abut my board Its A MSI model is MS-6380E. My core soeed is 1671.4mhzm FSB is 145 MHz, bus Speed 290.7MHz, voltage 1.504...I dont even know what all this is like i said am new to overclocking How much can i overclock and still be safe?

Besides good cooling, you must also have good RAM and a mobo that supports OC'ing.

A locked T-bred (A or B) XP 1800+ can easily be OC'ed to around XP 2100+ to 2200+ on air cooling as UAPyro said above. The Palomino core would be slightly lower than that due to more heat.
