Default Monitor wont change refresh rate from 100Hz...

I've been using an old 15" monitor with my geforce 4 card and using win xp pro for about a year now but I thought what the hell and went and bought a new 17" pure flat screen (crt) monitor.

Firstly, the difference between the two was just amazing! This new monitor makes me realise just how bad my cheap 15" one was - apart from one thing.

With the 15" monitor I had no problems changing screen mode and changing refresh rate but this 17" monitor stays at 100Hz no matter what refresh rate I set through windows.

The manual says the optimum rate for 1024x768 is 85Hz. I goto display properties and change it to 85Hz. The screen blanks for a second (as my older monitor did) then returns with the OSD saying 100Hz. Windows display properties still says 85Hz but if I close the window then open it again, it reports 100Hz again.

I wrote to the manufacturer who say it's it a problem with winxp and detonator drivers and they also sent the latest monitor drivers. How can it be a prob with winxp and detonator when they were working fine before I changed monitor?

I've tried the over-ride refresh rate feature of the detonator drivers, riva tuner and refresh force with no difference.

100Hz looks fine and I'm quite happy with it but surely running it at 100Hz will cause long term damage (It is capable of 120Hz but the recommended setting is 85Hz)

Am i worrying over nothing?

At 100 Hz your eyes are very happy. Be yourself too! The monitor is very happy. Trust me! You are all happy! Congratulations!
