Just read an article on the shelf life of cd-r's, thought others may want to know. It says cheap cdrs last up to five years, but I've also heard that decent media can last up to ten. But I'll probably reburn important cd's every two or three years though just to be safe.

He does have a point in what he is saying and yes nasty cheap media can only last so long. I have a couple of CD-Rs going 6 years now and get used often so it can depend on the brand.

I wonder if he recommends IBM branded tape drives

I've always used verbatim and never had a problem even when buying the 100 packs I used to buy at wholesale clubs. some of the first cd's I burned were mp3 cds about 6 or 7 years ago and they still work fine. but I've always kept them in a cd case and rarely take them out. I'm backing them up pretty soon, though.
