Exclamation XP Pro shut down problem [compaq; ; winXP]

sponsored links

just installed windows xp professional but one minor problem. wen i shut down it does not automatically shut down like it use to before. Instead a message appears "It is now safe to turn off your computer".

Anyway is there a way for me to make my computer automatically shut down without me pressing the off button?

***what i tried***
I enabled APM in the power options but it just restarts instead of shutting down and i also unchecked "automatically restart" on the start up and recovery menu.

help plz guys.

Had the same issue with a friends computer, it turned out that his motherboard's BIOS did not fully support the power management features of Windows XP. He had to settle for that manual shutdown. Come to think of it, he had a Compaq also.

Unless someone else has a magical answer I doubt it, especially on a store bought system with limitations.

IF Black is correct then what you MIGHT be able to do depends on your resourcefullness .... if you can figure out what make and model the board is you can have a look on the mobo manufacturers site and see if the latest BIOS supports these features and you could upgrade your BIOS if so.

This is a bit of a leap of faith though.
