Default internet running in slow motion HELP!!

can any1 help here if i type something for a search or even this what i'm typing now it take about 10 seconds b4 i can see what i've typed (slow motion) its just the internet thats running very slow and sluggish pc's running fine.

i have just reinstalled my basic ghost image bringing me back to a claen pc with nothing running and have just installed ie 6 but its just the same and is driving me mad.

running win 98 using ie 6

try defragging, and check your memory, make sure your resources are not hogging it up. if virtual memory is low, set it to 1 and half what your physical memory is....ie if you 64mb set it to 96.

A few other things to try. If you have other telephones plugged in, unplug them, I did not check whether you are in the UK but if you are, call BT and ask them to check the line, say you are getting slow or sluggish response times when connected (obviously check your ISP to see if they do not have problems).

thanks for all the help guys but system seems fine also i was using these setting a few months ago as this is a ghost image i done about 4 months ago everything was ok then and has been untill a couple of weeks ago and my pc can be running low on any memory/cpu usage as there is totally nothing stored on it at the mo all there is .....win 98,drivers,internet and printer ....


any other idea's b4 i chuck this through the window lol!!

If you have an ADSL line, a filter may help. I was experiencing that and the Tech guy said to apply a filter to the phone line. It made a marginal level of difference. Another option is if you double click on your network connections and hit repair what it does it renew's your IP. I dont know how exactly it works, but again was something I was told to do by my ISP's tech guy. Hope this helps
