Default Neo4 PS2 - Drawer wont open

sponsored links

As above. Can anyone help with this. Got the PS2 round about Xmas, worked fine but all of a sudden the drive no longer seems to be working. When I power up the PS2, the reset light comes on but the drive light doesnt and it just wont open. There is a disc inside.

Has anyone got any ideas as to the cause of this. Will it need a new drive, will it need to go into the shop or can I fix it.

Muchos gratias for any help offered.

Assuming you have a v4, if a wire did come lose, it's going to be one of the two down towards the lower right side of the board. Pins 38 and 39... check those.

Its a V3. Loose wire would make sense as about a month before it stopped working completely my 4yr old son tripped over the joypad wire and knocked the PS2 onto floor.
The drawer didnt open then either bvut the light still came on. I took a knife, removed the drawer cover and could see that the disc in it was out of place. I fiddled with the knife, moving the disc into place and it opened fine.
After this it was workin fine for a month or so and now this has happened, the drawer seems to have no power.

Will I be able to solder this myself given the fact my solderin skills are limited. I used to chip cable tv boxes but never a PS2 and if I'm right there are 44 wires with Neo4. Cant afford to ar$e it up as its my wee bro's PS2 I got him for Xmas!

Many thanks for any help.............rgrds............PaulG

Well, it kind of depends... it is much smaller than your typical cable box. You need a needle point (not the Radio Shack version of needle point, a .1 or .2 mm tip). If you have this and a steady hand, you should be able to fix one point that came loose. Check the points 38 and 39 first, they control CD door functioning. You may also want to check the ribbon cable that goes to the button...

Have decided I aint trying it, Id make an ar$e of it probly, bt the only shop thats local that would fix it, I'd grudge givin the greedy b'stards the money as they are very expensive in all they do.
They are still charging 90 for a Neo 2.2 with RegionX to be fitted. They still aint even seen Neo4 or Messiah.
So I reckon if I go to em I will pay a load for 10 mins work. Can someone give me a fair price for them to charge for this so I know where I stand when they hit me with theirs. They take it in, have a look and give u a quote so its worth seeing what they say before I consider sendin it to someoneon here or something. Thanks folks
