I personally have a PSOne that I modded with a "Stealth" mod-chip, and it's worked great for me over the 1 1/2 years I've had it. All it basically entails is soldering 6 wires (some are 7 or 8 wires though, depending on your model PS1/PSOne system) from the chip onto the main PSOne board. Some of the solder points are a little hard to access, but if you are fairly decent with soldering you should do fine. Otherwise, might be best to get someone to solder it for you.
