Unhappy I/O error

sponsored links

I don't know what I did but after restoring an old restore point, my cdrom is only able to read but it cannot write, so it can't burn CDs either. I subsequently had my pc reformatted by an IT personnel- a friend actually, (because of trojans and worms!!) but he too is fumbled....stumbled....or whatever. It gives "I/O error 87" when I tried FINAL BURNER.

It can play videos cds with no problems but it just can't burn!!

Installation of Nero and other burning software like Roxio, does not work.

I installed all Windows' Directx and all video codecs (Klite); I also dug up some info and tried the PIO and DMA thingie in Device Manager. Nothing worked.

I know this isn't a cd problem, it might be a windows registry thingie but I don't know for sure cos I am not an IT person. Any ideas to fix this other than uninstalling the cdrom and re-installing it? Any help appreciated!

Default

Has the drive been tested in another computer to see if it's ok there or not.

Has the drive been deleted from Device Manager and comp rebooted for fresh driver to be installed by XP.

Have you tried Deleting the Upper/Lower filters as discribed in other posts.

Another thing that could be tried is to remove the drive, reboot XP, a couple of times, turn comp off, then reconnect the drive on another IDE port if possible and restart XP.
