BTW I wasn't suggesting that you got maplins to put the connectors on for you. Find a friendly network admin at uni and ask him if he can stick the connectors on for you.

wont I need a network hub also if I want to network using networking cards ?

If you only want to network 2 pc's then you wont need a hub, just a network card in each pc and a piece of cross over cable (x-over).

Hubs are faily cheap too, could pick one up for less than 20 easy. I got a 5 port hub, 2 network cards and some cable for 25 from maplin the other week.

ok guys, thanx alot for the help I think I will go down to my local comp fair on the weekend and see if I can pick up 2 network cards.

Another option you have that no one has mentioned is a direct cable connection. It is even cheaper than the 2 nics, but the performance is not as good as the 2 nics either. It is just a parrallel cable that connects to both parrallel ports.
