Question wireless network HELP

sponsored links

Hi guys and gals,

I really need some help here! Is a Wireless Access Point absolutely required to set up a home-wireless network?

I have a desktop with 2 ethernet cards that is ALWAYS ON. One ethernet card connects directly into my cable broadband. I have 1 more desktop and 1 laptop. Currently I am wired in using a 5 port hub and using ICS for internet sharing.

I want to drop my wired network and continue using ICS.

My question is, can I just simply buy 3 USB 802.11b adapters, 1 for each desktop/laptop and thats all I need? Or do you have to have a Wireless Access Point to make this network work?

Kind Regards

This is what you need if you want to go Wireless:

802.11b Cable/DSL wireless router

802.11b Wireless PC card(for your laptop)

802.11b Wireless PCI Adapter for your other two PCs.

A Wireless Access Point is basically----- THAT... and access point. It's to extend your wireless network even futher than the normal range of your existing network.

A 802.11b USB adapter, is basically using your USB port to hook up to the 802.11b(wireless) adapters, instead of using a NIC and some CAT5 cables. It saves you from opening you PC and inserting a PCI NIC for networking. So, your 802.11b USB adapter is your wireless connection to your router(which has to be wireless to...).

I prefer Netgear over Linksys... more stable. Here's a link to the stuff you need that I mentioned up above in the list.
