Default Problems with ASUS A7N8X Deluxe MOBO [; ; win2KPro]

sponsored links

I recently bought a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard and installed it with my 512 MB PC2700 DDR-RAM (333MHz).

But when I turn on my computer my monitor wouldn't turn on, and I get this spoken message:

"System failed memory test" (Or something like that).

I looked it up, and in the trouble-shooting it says that my RAM's properly isn't working....

But that can't be, as I recently borrowed them out to a friend, and they are working fine in his computer.

So my question is, if my motherboard can't handle certain RAM-types/brands, or something needs to be set-up on the motherboard(i.e. jumpers or something)?

I have installed many motherboards and never had this problem before.

The only thing left on my mind is that the motherboard itself is malfunctioning....But it's brand new, so I don't hope that...

Any ideas ??

My system is like this:

CPU: AMD XP 2100
MOBO: ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
RAM: 1 x 512 MB DDR-RAM PC2700 333MHz
GFX: GeForce4 Ti4200 128 MB RAM
HDD's: 1 x 45 GB IBM + 1 x 120 GB Western Digital
PSU: 400W Thermal Take

As the man said, the board is very picky about memory. Check Asus' website and see if there are tests listed for RAM (as AOpen displays on their site). You can also check www.newegg.com as many people there have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe and have the same problem as you. If you read the product reviews, you'll find someone who can confirm which RAM works on your mobo. For future reference, that Asus mobo also has probs with some sounds cards, so check around before buying hardware for it.

i`m running the deluxe board with memory from crucial.com which is specific for the asus board, and she quite often tells me the same thing, but boots up with no problems, and continues to operate with no problems.
what else is happening at boot up on your system?
the monitor should turn on well before the memory spoken message.
is the video card installed correctly? i believe it checks the memory for that first, and you should see it doing so.

Well, I had a friend to come over yesterday and we tried to exchange RAM-blocks

It turned out that the board IS very picky regarding RAM-brand/type.

My RAM was working fine on his computer, and vice versa, so now I'll just have to buy some new RAM.

But thx for the replies
