Unhappy Slow ripping / slow burning

sponsored links

My Pioneer DVD-106 is very slow when ripping DVDs, it maxes out at about 2.0x when using Smartripper or DVD Decrypter. My system has Win XP installed and has an MSI KT3 Ultra2 (KT333 chipset) mobo.

I think it's down to the IDE drivers. I installed the VIA miniport drivers and tried ripping, and got about 9.0x straight away. When I came to burning though, my Pioneer 104 burner wasn't working properly. It would start the 'lead in' and not burn the iso file. I had to uninstall the miniport drivers in order to burn normally.

So can anyone help me with this problem please? I don't want to have to keep installing the miniport drivers every time I want to rip something at the proper speed.

Chek your DMA and see what it is set too.

Both are set to 'dma if available', however the second one (I think the reader), is set to PIO. When I installed the miniport drivers it was set to UDMA, and I'm sure it's capable of doing so. Any ideas on how to force it to DMA?

i'm having the same problem with the DMA setting, i have 4 drive on my pc, maxter 120 gig hard drive, SONY DRU500A, and liteon 32x cd burner is running under DMA, but my liteon dvd rom is the only one that is running on PIO, it take at least 40 minute to rip a 4.3 gig dvd-r into my hard drive
