Default Best Genesis Emulator??

sponsored links

1.) In your opinion, what is the best sega genesis emulator because I searched but did not find a post on this? (probally used wrong keywords, sorry)

2.) I read about frontloaders. What specifically are they and for which emulator should they be used?

Try to get the Smashpack Complete Volume 1 or you will be stuck with the DcGen.

I found 4 posts about a Genesis emulator on the front page of this board alone. This one has a link to the best Genesis emu (currently).

There are 2 Genesis emus out now.

One is called DCGen. It is decent, but it's slow and the sound is not right. It is the only legal Genesis emu on the DC.

The other is called SegaGEN. It is a hacked copy of Sega's "Smash Pack". Sega is pissed about it, and therefore it is not really legal. This one is much better than DCGen. 100% speed but the sound is not right on this one either.

About frontends:

The emu is the program that actually runs the games. The Frontend allows you to choose what game you want to play. Echelon wrote their own frontend program for you to be able to pick the game you want to play. Their's was annoying to use, but at least it did it's job.

Then Obsidian wrote their own frontend program that was better than Echelon's. It was easier to see the games, and allowed you to move quicker thru the long list of games you may have. Their's was called Lemec (for some reason).

The above link is to a post that has a link to the SegaGEN emu (the better one) using the Lemec Frontend Loader (the better one). It also contains a tutorial on selfbooting it.

As far as I know, it is impossible to non-selfboot the SegaGEN emu using the Lemec loader, but it is possible to non-selfboot the SegaGEN emu using the Echelon loader.

This is all the information I have regarding the DreamCast/Genesis Emu situation.

: Sega first released Sega Smash Pack #1. It is essentially a Genesis Emulator
: that runs on a DC. Echelon then released a Boot Loader, so any Genesis ROM
: could be loaded on this emulator. Obsedian, then released a more fine tuned
: Menu System, which is presented here. It is much, much more friendly.
:
: This CD is from a personal collection of 2 CDs full of Genesis ROMS. I
: combined both, and deleted 'multiple copies'. Ie, Madden 90,91,92,93,etc.
: along with any NON USA ROM to make room to selfboot on one disc. Pretty
: cool how ECH & OBS worked together to create such a cool Boot Loader

: Well, this is the last Year of PlayStation (1) and for a sad reason,
: DreamCast as well. Sucks if you ask me, DreamCast was a pleasant console.
: PS2 will be a good system, but it's pretty dull now, and don't get me started
: with XBox & GameCube. Oh well. Hopefully people will stop *****ing & whining
: so ECHELON can finish out the year with the final DreamCast games...I for one
: can't complain (**cough SoA cough** )

I have the smash pack, but I can't seem to make a copy of disc 2. I've tried DJ and Nero when I try making a disc image it says it is completed in a couple seconds. What gives?
