Question Anti Virus Software Help Please

sponsored links

Hi there.

Hope someone can help me as I am desperate!!!!

Firstly AOL is my ISP. Norton Anti Virus came
pre-installed on my computer (on a virtual drive),
I have regularly updated this. However when I try
updating now it says my 12 months free subscription
is over, please re-subscribe.

Now the fun starts..........

I have tried AVG, PC-CILLIN, AND one called NORMAN.

With AVG & NORMAN the 2 anti-virus softwares worked
fine until I came to connect to the internet, got as
far as detecting modem and computer would freeze.

With PC-CILLIN this wouldn't even install, just kept saying
you already have another anti-virus running even though I
had uninstalled NORTON (but the NORTON is still on my
virtual drive)

I am sure the problem is to do with the virtual
drive on this computer because the computer in
the other room is running AVG and AOL with no
problems.

With all the virus's floating about I desperately
need help as I am tearing my hair out here.

Many thanks
Diane

Hi Duffy

My computer has 20GB Hard Drive.........however only 18GB are accessable...the other 2 GB store the computer pre-installed software.....Windows 98, Norton Anti Virus etc....basically its so the company don't have to provide you with software CD's

Hope that explains better
Diane

Ok
Heres what I would suggest, remove ALL anti-virus software from Windows, then install just one make.

Few weeks ago, this happend to me also while trying to install another AV software, not knowing she had already installed one just hours before, sure enough, both AV software worked, with no conflict, until when trying to connect to the internet, it will connect, then the line will drop, took me a while to trace it all back, and removed one of them, and modem and internet just came back alive.

For reference, the first one installed is Dr.Soloman and the second one were AVG, I just removed Dr.Soloman and leaving AVG and this solved the problem.

As for anything on your 'virtual' drive, I wouldnt worry too much, as these should just be 'install' programs or 'images' of the software, unless your PC supplier is doing something unusual to the normal way of installation.

HTH
