I use AVG the free version, Adware Spyware, Spy Sweeper, Spyware Blaster.

And for the Firewall, ZoneAlarm, the free version.

Install LINUX. There are less viruses for this OS.

I use Avast Home. It works well for me and it's free if you register it. ***********.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

And also much less hardware, game and program compatibility. Let me guess, you'll suggest WINE........

That would have to be one of the dumbest replies I have ever read.

We may as well close all forums down and tell everyone to just "install Linux".

Anyway, regardless of which operating system is used, antivirus is still required.

Personally, I use Zone Alarm Security suite as it combines a firewall, antivirus, antispyware, IM protection, SPAM filtering, parental control and site blocking all in the one program.

For stand-alone antivirus, AVG, AVAST, and AntiVir Personal are all free, and offer good protection.

Norton is too resource hungry and problematic unfortunately, and can be extremely difficult to uninstall.

Symantec offer a removal utility on their site.

For antispyware, AdAware Personal and Spybot are both free, as are Spyware Blaster and Spyware guard.

They should all be considered compulsory.

Spyware Doctor and Spysweeper are both excellent, and the most effective, but they aren't free.
