Unhappy wireless home networking we all have to start somewhere!

sponsored links

we have a desktop running win xp home and a wireless usb adapter and a laptop running xp home with a netgear PCMCIA adapter, there is a wireless / modem router upstairs connected to the dsl line, I can share the internet connection on both units but how do i set it up to share the printer with both p.c's there are no hardwire connections between the p.c's so i need to know how to do it wirelessly ie; send file from the laptop to be printed on the printer connected to the desktop via usb port. Help please for a total THICKO!

Go to the Start Menu>Control Panel>Printers & Faxes

Right click on the printer you want to share, and go to sharing.

Click the radio button for "Share this printer", type a name for it, and then click apply.

Go over to the computer you want to have printer access, go to Start Menu>Control Panel>Printers & Faxes again.

There should be something on the top left that says "Add a printer"
Go to that, click next, select the 2nd radio button, the one for a network printer. easiest thing to do at this point is select the radio button for "browse for printer"
It should now list the printer you shared on the other computer. Highlight it, and click next.

Since the OS (XP) is the same on both machines, windows should acquire the drivers from the other computer.
