Default Kazaa isn't the only freeware software packed with spyware

If you are not running Zonealarm and Ad-aware then be afraid, be very afraid.

An interesting article on spyware -> ********smh.com.au/articles/2002/06/12/1022982864714.html lists dozens of freeware apps that contain spyware:
 • Limewire
 • BearShare
 • PKZip
 • iMesh
 • Grokster
 • CuteFTP
just to name a few.

It is a disturbing trend that these software developers are turning to spyware to bolster their revenue streams. It's difficult to tell if that latest-greatest app you've downloaded contains spyware and at the best of times the only warning given is a small notice buried in the software licence agreement, let's be honest here does anyone ever read that?.

So Caveat Emptor - let the buyer beware.

BearShare asks if you want to install the spyware/adware you when you install it.

Personally, I won't have spyware on my PC and I hate looking at ads. But to be fair, how else are they supposed to generate income?? Take DivX for example. They have to pay an MPEG4 license fee, this makes it hard for them to give their software away for free, so the free version of the Pro codec ships with GAIN.

Although other programs such as Trillian, manage to survive on donations, but they aren't exactly raking in the cash.

"Caveat Emptor - let the buyer beware".. Spyware in software you pay for is a different matter.

Took the worms right outa my mouth. I stopped using peer to peer stuff until this came out.

Adaware will find one file in Kazza-Lite, but set to ignore, it's harmless, called cd_clint.dll

Or, you could try one that doesn't mess around with any spyware so you don't have to worry about getting rid of it to begin with, such as my personal fav P2P, WinMX
