networking with xbox with windows xp

This is my method for connecting your xbox to your pc permanently via flash fxp.
AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS DOCUMENT THERE IS A LIST OF WEBSITES WHERE YOU CAN GET THESE TOOLZ
OK SO THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED :-
1, have windows xp on your pc, preferably with ntfs files system
2, have all cables, network card, and accessories all plugged in
3, have flash fxp
3, have evox dashboard EVOLUTIONX V1.8.458 burned on dvdr/cd-rw
4, EvolutionX beta V1.8.3285 (the newest one in a folder on your pc,NOT IN ISO FORMAT)
5. flashfxp software
6. patience
right presuming you got all those as they are up there lets go........
step one:-
power on both pc and xbox with them connected via a crossover network cable, hopefully windows xp should detect another
network device abd notify you with a little caption box near the clock "local area connection blah, blah", if not go into
the home network wizard and set one up. once it says you are CONNECTED, place the EVOLUTIONX V1.8.458 dvd-r in the xbox and
let it boot, once it does, goto network, make sure that default gateway and static ip are all set to 000.000.000.000 etc,
etc, now keep your eye on "IP" after about 30-60 seconds an ip addresse will appear WRITE THIS DOWN,
step 2:-
goto your pc, start up flash fxp, at the top left of the flash fxp window goto "sites", then "site manager", click on "new
site", give the site a name, like "MY XBOX" and click "OK", then enter these details below, in the fields that appear on the
right of the screen.
"ip addresse", enter the one you have just written down
"username" = "xbox"
"password" ="xbox"
"port" ="21"
"anonymous" =make sure this is ticked
now click "apply" and "connect"
WooHoo if everything has gone to plan you should see a list of yellow folders(which are the xbox drives) appear in the right
hand column of flash fxp.
**********PLEASE NOTE*************
if your connection fails, shutdown the xbox, and flashfxp and try again, flashfxp has trouble reconnecting after it has a
failed connection, if all else fails make sure you have a "crossover network cable"
YOU WILL HAVE TO REDO "STEP ONE" TO GET THE NEW "IP ADRESSE" THAT EVO X GIVES YOU , IT GENERATES A DIFFERENT ONE EVERY TIME!
C drive is your main boot drive containing the xbox O.S.
D drive is your xbox dvd-rom drive
E drive is where your save games go and other sys utilz
F drive is usually unformatted (8 gig) and so cant be used, if you have the (10 gig ) you can format this to gain another 2
gig hdd space
all the other drives i dont know exactly what they are used for!
step 3:-
now we will back up your C and E drive, (this is because we are going to permanently place the evox dashboard on your xbox
hard drive)
make a folder on the desktop on your PC, name it "my xbox backups".
In the right hand column of flash fxp browse and find the folder you have just created, then in the left hand column drag the
C and E drives into the folder and wait, it should`nt take long (depending on any save games or ripped music)..........at
the bottom once it has finished it will say "idle" , thats it you have backed up the important stuff, KEEP THESE SAFE, you
never know when you might need them.
***************PLEASE NOTE********************
IF YOU DONT WANT TO PERMANENTLY PUT EVOX ON YOUR XBOX HARD DRIVE, YOU CAN JUST KEEP REPEATING STEPS 1 AND 2 TO ALLOW YOU TO
CONNECT TO YOUR XBOX.
step 4:-
now get yor evox version 1.8.3285 ( doesnt matter which one, just use the latest one you can get hold of), it must be in a
folder on your PC,this must be a folder with all the files, not an iso ready to burn on dvdr, put it on your desktop, then go
into this folder and rename the "default.xbe" to "xboxdash.xbe". Now go on to the C drive of your xbox through flash fxp and
find the "xboxdashe.xbe"file and rename it to "msxboxdashe.xbe", now copy the CONTENTS ONLY of the evox folder from your PC
into the C drive (ROOT DIRECTORY) of your xbox, once thats done (flash fxp will say "idle" at the bottom of the window) take
the old evox disk out of the xbox, and reboot it, the new version of EVOX that you just copyed over should boot from the
hard drive
STEP 5 :-
ON YOUR PC
on the start menu, goto the run box, and enter "CMD", hit enter. A DOS prompt box should appear, type in "ipconfig", some
information should appear, the only thing we are interested in is "SUBNET MASK", write down the numbers it gives you, on my
PC it appears "255.255.0.0", you will need this in a minute.
STEP 6 :-
ON YOUR XBOX
(PRESUMING THAT THE NEW EVOX YOU HAVE JUST COPYED HAS BOOTED FROM THE HARDDISK AND IS NOW ON THE MENU SCREEN)
On the main menu of evox x goto "system utils" (press "A" on your joypad to select), then on "settings",and find where it
says "setup network" and make sure it says "yes" if not press "A" and set it "YES", set also "STATIC IP" to "YES", then
underneath it says "IP" you have the option to enter an addresse which will be the permanent address, enter the ip addresse
that you written down in step 1 earlier. once you have entered it, scroll down to the bottom of your screen and select save
and exit, this will save those settings for you, you must now rebbot the xbox for the settings to take effect.
STEP 7 :-
ON YOUR PC
SHUT DOWN FLASH FXP AND RESTART IT
GO BACK TO THE SIRE MANAGER (AS COVERED IN step 2)
hit connect..........thats it , if everythings gone to plan you should be connected.
************************************************** **********************************
TROuBLESHOOTING
make sure you have a working crossover network cable, not one that goes from PC TO HUB, PC TO PC type is fine.
if you havent got one any computer shop will have them, just ask for an "RJ45 CROSSOVER network cable"
always reboot the xbox after any system changes
always restart FLASHFXP
