Question PAL error on Toshiba SD-2800

sponsored links

Wednesday night, I watched half a DVD on my toshiba sd-2800. Went to finish watching last night (the DVD had not been removed; the player had been turned off) and the following things were amiss:

1. The splash screen for the player was grey (normally it's blue, and it remains greyscale even when "blue" is selected)
2. The player console read "Disc Error" when the DVD spun up
3. The on-screen error is "Not PAL"

This makes no sense since Toshiba does not support PAL in any of their products. Toshiba has no idea what the problem is, but they say it's impossible. Nevertheless, it is giving this error. The player will play audio CDs. If anyone has any idea what could be happening, I would appreciate some advice. In the meantime, it's time to hook the laptop up to the TV again....
Thank you
