Default Using DVDxCopy Express [Systemax; Pentium 2.4 ghz; winXP]

sponsored links

I installed a Plextor PX-708 DVD +/- R/RW DVD burner on my machine. I tested it out and it read my the images off one of my CD, so I know it is working.

I got a trial copy of DVDxCopy Express because I read reviews on it and talked with our IT guy at work and it seemed to have a decent reputation for doing DVD copy and burning in a simple direct process.

So:

1. I installed the DVDxCopy Express trial software on my machine
2. Put a DVD disk (+R/+RW format) from Memorex in my Plextor drive (E: drive)
3. Put the Lord of the Rings Twin Towers DVD in my DVD ROM drive (D: drive)
4. Ran DVDxCopy.

The software seemed to work seamlessly. It first put a screen that asked if this was a rented or borrowed DVD and of course I clicked on "NO" . Then it showed that the Twin Towers movie was in my D drive (the DVD ROM drive) and that a blank DVD was in my E drive (the Plextor DVD burner). And off it went reading the D drive and writing to the E drive.

When the process was done, I tried putting the completed DVD in the D drive and it kept asking me to insert a disc in the drive which I assume meant that it could not read the DVD I had just burned. So then I tried it in my standalone DVD player (a newly purchased Koss 350). I checked on DVDRHelp.com and found that the Koss 350 supported the DVD + R/RW format. The Koss DVD player was not able to read the disk.

So then I put the DVD disk in the E drive (the DVD burner) and ran Roxio's DVD Player software (which come with the Plextor drive).

The movie ran fine with all kinds of neat features from the Roxio DVD player software -- frame by frame movement, copy frame, 4x to 32x Fast Forward and Rewind capabilities. It was wonderful. But I was running it from my Plextor drive on my computer and I wanted to be able to run it from a standalone DVD player and watch it on my TV.

I called 321 Studios support (DVDxCopy Express makers) and he suggested that I burn the DVD using disks that supported DVD minus R/RW instead of plus R/RW because it was a format supported by more standalone DVD players. I think he is wrong about this. Also, the DVD ROM drive (the D drive) on my computer is a couple of years old so it might not support the DVD plus R/RW format. But again, when I checked the DVDRHELP.com listing, it verified that the KOSS 350 DVD player does indeed support +R/RW format.

Do you have any idea what I may be doing wrong? The DVDxCopy Express software did indeed copy the movie to the DVD disk in drive E as it was supposed to because I can run it on my computer. I thought that maybe my system was running the files from my hard drive, but when I took the DVD disk out of the E drive, the Roxio DVD player could not find the movie. And when I put the DVD disk in my D drive, it just kept asking for me to insert a disk in the drive (indicating to me that it could not read the disk).

I thought it might be helpful to include the output of the log file of the copy using DVDxCopy Express:

Well it is true that DVD-R is a bit more compatible in DVD Players. Stick to quality media (Ritek, Verbatim or Fujifilm) and you should be fine. Also there are a few DVD Players that are incompatible with movies burned using X COPY.
