Default DDR vs SDRAM

Would it be better to have 256mb of DDR ram or 512mb of SDRAM?

I am building a new system for multi purpose games and audio use with decent graphics and sound cards (XP1800+ based).

If I go for DDR ram, I have to spend more on a m/board, If I go for SDRAM I can get twice as many mb's while staying in budget.

I realise that I have can obtain a upto date Grapics card by having a DDR mother board but can conversely obtain a non DDR good performance card to run on a cheaper motherboard.

What do you think guys?

As you said, it depends on your budget. If you want speed, go for DDR ram. You'll probably get better performance in games even though it's only 256mb as compared to 512mb sdram.

better to go for the drr, esp for future proofing. also i was unaware you could use sdram with an xp processor - the fsb is 266 and if i'm not mistaken, you need the 266mhz ram with it???

512mb ddr is optimum for games, but 256ddr will be better - rarely will you use more than this.

oh and btw the ram on the graphics card has NOTHING to do with the rest of the pc. you can have ddr ram on the graphics card whilst having sdram primary memory (like i have on this pc) or the other way round (like on my other pc)
