Default Satellite Internet Service (Direcway, Magicsat) Anyone used it?

sponsored links

Hi guys,
I live in the boonies and can't get DSL or cable internet access. Has anyone used one way highspeed satellite internet access like Direcway or Magicsat? I've been reading up on them and just want to hear some real world comments before I invest in a system...
Thanks,
rum...

An associate of mine has it. As you know you still need a tel. line for uploads and the dl speed it not what you would call lightning fast. 80-100KBs.

He also tells me when he weather is real crappy he looses d/loads and when he does manage a d/l it is almost as slow as Dial up.

You will be getting 4-5KiloBytes from your 56Kilobit modem from an 80-100Kb/s connection you will get a 8-10 KiloBytes upto double what you are getting.

1 byte = 8 bits
KB/s = Kilobytes per second
Kb/s = Kilobits per second

56K Modem = 56kbps or 7KB/s Max (My connection is 44Kbps or 5.5 KB/s)
ISDN =128kbps or 16KB/s
ASDL/Cable = 500kbps or 62.5KB/s Download
