Default What version your PS2 is, for those too lazy to open it up.

The only way to know what version you have for SURE, is to open it up & compare it to known
versions. This is the same worldwide. If you are NOT going to mod it, just turn it on with NO disk & the version number is displayed on the screen.

If you are going to mod your PS2, then you'd have to open it to put the mod or wire in, like right? If you open it then you can compare it to known versions. Like, that is way easy.

PAL PS2 versions photos to version 5 use:

NTSC (That's America) PS2 version photos to version 5 use:
***********.psx-tech.com/Faq.htm

Anyone got the v6+ photos or other URLs?

This message is to be used for ALL version questions of any kind. This is because
'what version is my PS2?' questions appear 5 times a day, everyday in the forum.

Here's a tricky one:

PS2's with a 30001-R can be a Version 4 or Version 5. So you must open it up, some sites say anything with a R is a version 5, buy thats not true, compare it to a picture or no-mod installation guide to be for sure.

I think this topic should be a sticky one.

Version 6:
The Playstation 2 V5 & V6 Models usually with a model no. SCPH-3x00xR while the X can stand for different numbers (SCPH-30001, SCPH-30002, SCPH-30003, SCPH-30004, SCPH-30005, SCPH-30006, SCPH-30007 etc, but also also SCPH-35001 etc). If the model is correct, please open the Expansion Bay to check if your unit has the screws like in picture 2 and also check the connector like in Picture A in order to make your decision. <***********.modchip-sbox.com/imageSite/v5-6-version/v5-v6-difference.gif>
