Default Which dvd player definitely plays svcd and vcd?

sponsored links

I checked vcdhelp.com but it seems like, for the few dvd players that I checked, not everyone could get a svcd to play. I was mainly looking at apex brand because of its price. Are there dvd players of similar price that are known to play svcds and vcds well (maybe not 100% but 80-90%)? Thanks.

I can assure you that the pacific 750 and 1000 BOTH play vcds and svcds as i have both models here @ home 750 in front room (as its silver and goes with the rest of the setup) and the 1000 is in my daughters bedroom both are less than 90 and are available @ asda stores

they both also play the following without problems
mp3
dvd-r
dvd silver

tho i must admit the build quality is only average and the tray opening time on the 750 is quite slow

but hey for under 90 its a bargin and there is a remote region hack for both and a macro for the 750 but as yet i havent managed to get it to work

Thanks for the reply. I'm in the US though and I haven't heard of the brands you mentioned.

i'm in Northern Virginia and own the Apex AD1500. picked it up for $69 at Circuit City and it does play SVCD, VCD (standard CBR and non-standard VBR video bitrates), CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, is region-free and macrovision disabled, which is amazing since my $200 JVC and Toshiba DVD players do NOT play SVCD, MP3 or anything other than region 1 DVDs!

another popular model is the pioneer 333 (check out the DVD player list at vcdhelp.com)

Thanks, I'll try to look for the apex 1500 or pioneer one you mentioned.

I'm fairly certain that all Apex models can play VCD and SVCD.. and they're also the cheapest ones to boot
