The only hopes are the broadband adaptor and the q.

Somebody with a gamecube, go try this, yes you, go get a sharpie and color in the transparent area then see try to make a clonecd image of it. My theory is that possibly clonecd (or some other program that does stuff with dvds, nero perhaps? Will skip over the bad sectors (like psOne discs) making it then possible to make a mod chip or program a q or something to play them.

whats the Q got over the normal gamecube?
The Q will NOT READ A NORMAL SIZE DVD IF IT HAS OTHER THAN mpeg4 data on it!
It switches between modes - GCN mode (8mm disc) and DVD mode (standard size disc).
How can a PC read a disc if it doesnt even know what sort of disc it it!
Try getting a normal CD (a shitty old one) And covering the inner edge by colouring or scratching it (in the style of a GCN disc) and i bet it cant be read - Even using software. BECUASE it cant understand what type of disc it is!

From the sounds of it, backups might have a slim chance.
Look at the Sega Saturn. Nobody can reproduce that copyright protection to this day. Sure you can play games on there with a mod chip, but saying that everything will be eventually cracked is a little too optimistic at least in the short term.
