Default Need help backing up AoE2 the conquerers [; ; winXP]

Hi

I would like to back-up my copy of Age of Empires2: The Conquerers. I have both Nero and CloneCD. Which one is the easiest to use? Do I also need a patch in order to burn it?

Thanks

It copied just fine for me with CloneCD. What burner do you have?

Pretty sure that it was protected with SafeDisc.. So use Clone CD as Nero won't work without adding a crack...

Read with Fast Error Skip enabled and write in RAW DAO or RAW SAO and the copy should run fine...

You might want to varify the protection used though...

Conquerors (and AOEII) is a safedisc protected game. CloneCD can handle this easily as long as your CD-RW drive can read and write RAW.

This is courtesy of www.cdmediaworld.com:

Here are the instructions to make a working backup of most Protected CDs using CloneCD in combination with a CD-Reader/CD-Writer which can both can handle DAO-RAW:

Create the following directory:
<TempDir>: C:\TEMP\CD
Create a CD-Image using CloneCD with these settings:
Set Read Speed to 1x (176 kByte/s) (Or you can experiment with the speed.)
Select Read SubChannel Data from Data Tracks
Select Read SubChannel Data from Audio Tracks
Select Fast Error Skip
Set Read Retry to at least 5
Set Error correction to None
UnSelect Don't report bad sectors
UnSelect Intelligent Bad Sector Scanner

When ready burn the CD-Image a CD-R using CloneCD with these settings:
Set Write Speed to any desired speed
Select RAW DAO
Select Don't Repair SubChannel Data
UnSelect Simulate Writing (if available)
Select Burn Proof/Just Link (if available)
unSelect Perform Laser Power Calibration
unSelect Wait until Buffers are full
Select Always close last Session
Play the game!

Those settings are overkill...

Read at max with fast error skip enabled on 0 retires in software mode or whatever mode works best with your drive. No need for reading subchannel as SafeDisc doesn't use it.

Write in RAW SAO or RAW DAO and select Always close last session.

You only need to slow the read speed down and increase the retries if the CD is damaged and you are picking up additional read errors when reading.

Thanks for the help guys. I managed to burn a back-up copy of AoEII the conquerers using clonecd. The game installed fine from the back-up copy but when I try to play using that copy it says 'cannot locate cd-rom please insert correct cd-rom'. The autoplay menu starts up and it happens once I've clicked on play.

I don't know if this makes a difference or not but I wrote the disc using RAW SAO as I don't think my burner supports RAW DAO.

Thanks again
