Default Just a little excerpt...

From something I found on the Web I thought might be of use.

Data Compression and Data Compaction

Many people do not know the difference between Data Compression (DTACPR) and Data Compaction (COMPACT). For the AS/400, data compression refers to data compression that is performed by the system. Data compaction refers to when the tape drive compresses data. When performing a Save, you may choose to use either data compression or data compaction, but only certain quarter-inch tape drives support data compaction.
