Default NEW PS2 FAQ starting......Right here, come & add to it....

sponsored links

We have decided to start a new PS2 FAQ......the old one was rather old &
chips have come a long way.

Please DO NOT post questions in the FAQ's
These are for information only, post any questions in the regular forums.

This is just the draft, not the official FAQ......we need new input!

Im starting with what GS version to use:

"blue_mosquit0o says:

PS2 Version 5 - Any Game Shark version 1.93 or higher

PS2 Version 4 - Any Game Shark version higher than 1.4

PS2 Version 3 - Any Game Shark version works

PS2 Version 2 - Without needing to patch EA games use version 1.3, 1.6, 1.7 or 1.9 Otherwise, any version GS will work but EA games will need to be patched.

PS2 Version 1 - Without needing to patch EA games use version 1.3, 1.6, 1.7 or 1.9 Otherwise, any version GS will work but EA games will need to be patched."

1) Gameshark/Action Replay CDs can be backuped.
2)Most PS2s cannot play CD-RWs.
3)There is No emautlor for the PC which runs PS2 Games.
4)Most people say Verbatim DataLife Plus Blank Media is the best.
5)To Backup the gameshark:
**Konga123's Tutorial to Burning the Gameshark**

-Konga123
How To Burn the Gameshark/Action Replay:
1)Put the Gameshark/Action Replay CD into your burner (the PC will most likely lock itself up for about 7 seconds)
2)Open up the latest version of Clone CD.
3)Select the very first icon (Read To Image File) - It has a picture of a CD and glasses.
4)Select the Burner as the CD-Reader, click Next.
5)Double Click on 'Game CD'.
6)Select the Destination on your PC where you would like to store the CD.
7)Tick the Box for "Create a Cue Sheet".
8)Click OK to Begin the reading process.
9)Once Reading 100%, successfull, Use CDR-Win, or Clone CD, to burn the image.

To Do This (Burn the Image):
Clone CD: (When it asks what to Burn to, you select your burner...)
1)Open Clone CD.
2)Click on the second icon (Write Image to CD) - Has a picture of a CD and a pencil.
3)Locate the image in browse, click Next.
4)Double Click on "Game CD".
5)Leave all Settings, as is.
6)Burn, and boot.

CDR-Win
1)Load up CDR-Win.
2)Click "Record to CD" - Very First Icon
3)Click "Load Cue Sheet" - And Find it. (image's cue sheet - in same folder as image)
4)Leave all current settings.
5)Click Start Recording.
6)Burn, and boot.

Default Disc Read ERROR

Procedure

Note:Try this if your ps2 keeps reading "Disc Error" or stops working while playing a game immediatly:

1)First turn on your ps2 and take out anything not sony and the game in the disc drive

2)Hit reset.

3)Hit triangle when the browser and system configuration comes up

4)Go up to "Console Version" and hit triangle.

5)Turn on "Diagnosis" and hit Circle twice to get back to the browser and system Configuration. And whatever you do, do NOT hit reset!

6)Put in the game and go into the "Browser" and it should work.

If my disks don't read or read now & then I clean them under running water & pat dry. Before doing this, verify the laser can read cd's or dvds by putting in a fresh one (I like to use the psx GS
cd).

For dirty lasers:
Get a can of compressed air & trying cleaning the laser through the door opening first. I would suggest unplugging the ps2 because some cans of air leak fluids when you spray strongly.

Wet cdrom/dvd drive cleaners should work alright (Haven't tried them myself). Be sure to read the instructions, so some them specify that you cannot use the machine for FIFTEEN minutes after cleaning (needs to dry). Cleaners that use only brushes won't get rid of oil stains on the laser.
