Default spch-102 chip problem, pls help.

I just installed an 8 wire stealth chip. (my first). i think i must have frigged it up along the line cos on boot up the ps screen judders badly, but the games work fine. another thing. some backups dont work but work fine on an earlier version ps1. I found that if i back them up onto a verbatim disc they work fine. (is that normal)?

Be grateful for any advice.

thanks in advance.
