It doesn't matter what speed you burn at for dc backups..as long as you burn it right-->.

I burn everything at 24x (max speed for my writer)

Audio, Video, PSX, DC, Data or whatever, works perfectly everytime.

And I use cheap Imation discs (which for those in the UK are 30 for 10 in Morrissons supermarkets)

Same here.

Cheap media is what I use for DC, PS1, and PS2. All burned at 12X (max on mine)and have never had ANY problems.

Depends on the burner more than anything else in my experience. I used to use an old Yamaha - it couldn't burn faster than 4x without having problems. I have a LiteOn now. I burn e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g @ 24x. Media makes no diff for my PSX, Saturn, SegaCD, DreamCast, PC, VCD, or SVCD. I usually use TDK or Fuji, but even the silver topped genero discs work fine. If you look around you can get a 24x10x40 LiteOn for as little as $40. I paid $80 for mine a few months ago, and have burned 500+ CDRs @ 24x without a problem.
