Question Nero 'on The Fly' Problem??

sponsored links

I have tried to copy an audio cd directly from my cd rom drive to my writer but I get the following message:

Important Information
! It looks like your source and your destination drive for the 'on the fly'
copy process are connected to the same IDE bus.We would strongly recommend
to connect your source and the destination drive to different IDE buses.

Technical background: An IDE bus cannot handle interleaved read and write
commands. This will reduce the data transfer rate during 'on the fly'copies
and may therefore cause 'buffer underrun' error.

Does this mean my reader and writer are incorrectly fitted?

Hi,

Normally, you would try to have your burner and your reader on a different IDE channel - IE, have your burner as secondary master and your reader as primary slave or something like that. IDE transfers data in one direction at a time, which can cause buffer underruns since data can not be read and written simultaneously on the IDE bus. I would recommend not having the two on the same cable if you can avoid it. but if not, I know many people who have there machines configured like yours, and they have no real trouble. But, if you are going to be trying to burn at really high speeds on-the-fly, I would recommend moving one of your drives to another IDE channel. If you have any more questions about this, please reply.

-Zack

Thanks for your replies.
Zack: I have tried nero on my other (old) computer and get the same warning message.
However, what I can't understand is that on my old computer I have made copies 'on the fly' using adaptec easy cd and never had this warning or problem .
Does adaptec use a different method to nero of doing 'on the fly'
copies?

Thanks in advance for any help

Colin.
Does your new MESH computer reader and writer share the same IDE channel and does it give you the same warning message ?
I was wondering if I should have asked MESH about this problem on my new pc.
If your MESH computer is the same as mine I won't bother ringing them.
By the way Colin, MESH told me that the nero program is included on the 'RESTORE DISK' . I have explored contents of this cd and can't find anything to do with nero on it.
Did you definately get a separate cd for nero ?
thanks m8
