no, i know that, when windows boots up, from being shut off or restarted, you can press something so that you have a bunch of choices on how to start up, like run command only, safe mode, etc. the instructions that zack gave me said it was ctrl, but that doesnt work, so im wondering if its just my comp or if the key is different and the instructions are wrong.

Hit f8 at the boot sequence. It is on mine but if that doesent work try f5

uk_trader, what version of windows do you have? if its 98 can you go into your windows folder and see if there is a file called winfile.dta for me, it think its being copied from there.

Im running win ME at the mo, but the only fille there is winfile.exe couldnt find a winfile.dta or winfile.dat incase it was a typo.

no its winfile.dta, ok load up your winstart.bat and tell me whats in that, so i know what to delete and what not to delete.

Cant help you there m8 I dont have a winstart.bat I think I deleted a while back or it was removed when running a disk cleaning app..
