Default DVD ROM in XBOX--How to put a Laptop DVD ROM IN?? Help Please

sponsored links

Can anybody help me with providing some info on replacing my current XBOX DVD ROM with a laptop one. I have heard (confirm please) that a lap top rom is the same size. My XBOX rom will not read MEMOREX MEDIA, PRINCO, basically any type of CDRW's thus far, and the only media i have not tried is Apple. I would like to switch out the drives, can any body give me a hand in providing information on how difficult or easy this may be. THANKS

It doesn't matter what type of DVD-ROM you use, you will still need to keep the Xbox DVD-ROM in the case. If you remove the Xbox DVD-ROM completely you will get an error telling you your Xbox needs servicing.

If you need info on how to replace your drive just do a little searching and you will find a few topics already started describing the steps you need to follow.

Default not true....

You can put it a PC-DVD drive without having the XBOX drive hooked up.
It all depends on your kernel version and what mod you have installed.
The 3944 and Enigmah enables you to use an LG DVD drive,
and you can take out the Xbox DVD drive altogether.
The Xbox cover can be closed, the yellow wires that hook up to
the Xbox drive are left unplugged, and you can rig up an eject button
which allows you to open and close the LG DVD drive without
resetting the console. You can even stick the Xbox Drive plastic front
piece onto your replacement drive, so it looks original.
Can't read original games, that's the only drawback,
but it's easy enough to hook up the old drive for that.

I think that youve been mis-informed, you can hook up a pc dvd drive as Modmad stated but I havent heard of anyone hooking up a laptop dvd drive. I would go with the pc dvd drive swap thought, I did it and now I can play all my games on regular cdr instead of cdrw's and the load times are much faster and games run smoother and its less wear and tear on my xbox drive ( even though you have to put a disk in it ) but you have to leave your xbox open unless yours has the rite kernal and you get the rite drive as stated by Modmad but I would recommend doing it. my 2 cents good luck \/ L8R

xbox bios flashed with evolution 2.2, I installed a Creative DVD and it didnt work. It gave me the service message. and yes, the xbox dvd was plugged.
Should I try with the LG?
