the "key phrase here is EXPENSIVE!" you better be ready to take out a second mortgage on the house or deplete the kids college fund to pay for the PS3. if you thought that $400.00 was alot to plop down for the PS2 when it launched... try $700.00 for the PS3. can you see it other wise? unlees the chip is first used widely in computer or other set top boxes, then this thing is gonna cost alot of yen. btw it's still at least 5yrs away.hmm wonder what they'll do for the PS2 when microsoft launches their next XBOX while waiting for the chip to start production???

since it'll basically be a network "machine", they coud easily check the box to see if it's got a crack or something alien in the software. aside from that think"direct stream videogames". you wouldn't have to do anything except download a small driver to install on the system to play a directly streamed game. fox has been tapmering with an online baseball game that's like home run derby or something. since the ps3 will be broadband only and it will be able to network to other machines and use other machines unused processing power, there'd really be no need to have discs unless they think of the little guy who doesn't have broadband, but then again, if you could afford the new machine, then chances are you already have broadband...If that'sthe case, then any attemp at cracking the software protection, could be considered an act of "hacking" making it more feasible that anyone who was playing the game illegaly would either be banned from the service of the ps3 broadband network( if there will be one) and arrested and charged. in other words, sony just might say screw you if you can't keep up with technology and the price that goes along with advancement. just my opinion.

First off, with this radical hardware they are using, they are further alienating the developers with rising development costs. Costs rise, game price stays the same. Hence the fact Nintendo wants to continue to work on the Gamecube for 8 years. Graphics are powerful enough. This cell technology isn't being created for the videogame end of the PS3, this is where Sony combines all of their multimedia products into one. Along with AOL as the ISP.

Also, to the guy who said >>>nintendo = yeah right, psx is still better than the gamecube, lol lmao (they dont bring out new games, its also mario fu*ks his mum, mario house party, mario land, donkey kong, then is all the same crap wrestling games)and now most of the games they have copyed from the ps2 & xbox)<<< Those aren't of the main series, let not talk about how many Star Wars games have been *****d out over the past decade and a half. Better yet, let's collect a who's who of the PS2 lineup, Metal Gear Solid 2, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City-5th in the series, Final Fantasy 11, Tekken 4-5th in the series, Tony Hawk 4, Virtua Fighter 4, Twisted Metal:Black-5th in the series, Gran Turismo 3, Dynasty Warriors 3, Hot Shots Golf 3, Crash: Wrath of Cortex-4th in series, Tenchu 3, and Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness-6th in series. The sad thing about it is only MGS, VF, and FF were around before the PSX games. Since 1994, these games have been releasing themselves on an almost yearly basis. Mario Sunshine will be the 6th true Mario game, it first debuted in 1984. Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness will be the 6th TR games, it first debuted in 1994. The average person would be more inclined to call Tomb Raider a rehash log before they would call Mario that. The point of the matter is, everybody releases sequels, but only Nintendo gets theirs called rehashes. It's a double standard

iceberg_is_on_fire is right. Nintendo has contributed to the games to day more then any other company.
Mircosoft could not even compete to this. It sad that inexperianced gamers think Mircosoft and Sony have made the oringal of the games that are most popular today
