Even using a scart lead, I don't believe that it would help a PAL and NTSC problem.

From what I can tell, you are copying an NTSC format film onto a PAL VHS tape.

I finally got black hawk to video along with others I had problems with ,my dvd output was set to auto (ntsc or pal )when I changed this to pal away it went thanks for all your help

In future just play the film on your pc using software like Power DVD this will tell you if the film is NTSC or Pal, then make sure your VCR is capable of recording what you are outputting by setting the output of your DVD player if it can, or convert it with TMPGEnc 1 disc usually takes 8 - 12 hours.
