Explain Karaoke disks for me Please...

I have a GE 1109-PA DVD Player. It is supposed to play Karaoke disks, but it doesn't play them the way I have thought it would. I envisioned the music with and without words and the words(lyrics) on the screen, but the CD+G disk that I bought last night did not seem to do anything but give me a blank screen and two separate versions of each song, one with words and one without words. I looked throught the manual for my player last night and the only instructions it gave were to hit the sound button to remove lyrics and controls for pitch and etc for you to control the sound of your voice on the mic. Can someone break down Karaoke disks for me, I want to understand them a little better as my little girls will really have a good time with it. BTW, the cd I bought was Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera which my girls(wife too) love, maybe its a good thing it didn't work the way I had thought it would. If someone breaks it down I would appreciate it.

So your stuck and want to make a karaoke disc from mp3/cdg files?

If you have Brought mp3/cdg discs of me then you will also have the
tools explained Here.

Unzip MP3G Toolz 1.5.6 Beta.zip
Ok install this and if asked to make any asociatioins say yes
Now reboot your pc

Unzip a karaoke mp3/cdg track into a folder
you can unzip as many as you want but for now while you learn
this just do the one.

ok in this folder then you should have .mp3 file and a .cdg file.
(You should have you just unzipped them)

RIGHT CLICK the folder NOT the files
an option will appear. Choose "mp3g to bin".
the toolz program will now load.
::ress start:::

This will now convert both the .mp3 and the .cdg into
1 bin file. The bin file is what you need to burn.

OK now run cdrwin if you have not got this then download
it from www.goldenhawk.com, for free or off the tools disc i sent.

Click on record disc. Then load tracks
make sure you check the cdg box at the top.
Click on add and add the bin file you created, then press ok.

Turn the max speed down to x2 or x4
any faster and you may end up with a crashed disc where the
graphics will be pitted.

Thats it now just click on record disc.

Now if you want just open the cdg file in to one of the programs
and press play and sing along with the music.

WARNING you must have a compatable cdg burner to burn cdg discs.
To rip a cdg disc you must have a compatable cdg reader.

I did not buy a disk from you so I do not have the MP3G Toolz 1.5.6 Beta.zip you mentioned. Would a CD+G cd still have the same file structure you mentioned, ie. the .mp3 and .cdg? Upon some research I think I need to make a conversion of the CD+G disk to a VCD. I don't know if my burner is compatible, it is a HP 9100i. I downloaded cdg2avi which I assume at this point will do what I want as far as making the conversion. Then I assume I need to use something to burn the discs as VCD's. Any more help would be appreciated.

if you are only going to play them on a DVD player then you must have DVD karaoke discs, VCD karaoke discs or CD+G transfered to VCD. you probably realise by now that your DVD player will not play CD+G (very few do) if you cannot transfer CD+G to VCD then your options are limited to the first two ie DVD or VCD. please read the FAQ's to find out if your computer hardware is compatible for mp3+G and CD+G

Forget about the MP3+G, as you never mentioned it I assume your CD is a regular CD+G CD. There seems to have been some misinterpretation of your original post. Your DVD player in all likelihood does not play CD+G. However there is a chance your CD+G can be read by your CD-ROM or CD-RW.

Download CD+G Disc Player from www.tyrannosoft.com it is freeware. If this displays the lyrics from your CD+G played in your CD drive(s) it supports CD+G reading. If not it could still be capable of CD+G. Once you have confirmed which drive reads CD+G the best, use that drive and cdg2avi to create avi files. You can then burn them to a CD-R as .mpg files for a VCD. See www.vcdhelp.com for more info on this. Even if you can't tell whether your drive reads CD+G you could always try the cdg2avi and check the results.

Edit: Sorry just noticed you posted an HP9100 as your burner. You will notice from the FAQ that your drive is compatible with CD+G. You may want to consider purchasing a TV out card or add on to use your PC for CD+G burning and playback since you have a capable drive. It will be a lot of hassle to convert all your CDs, and possibly more expensive to add a CD+G deck to your Stereo.

Thank you for all the posts, between browsing through the forums and reading the replies in my thread I went from not knowing anything about Karaoke disks to having a much better understanding. I want to use the Karaoke CD at home for my kids, but my burner is in my office at work so I'd like to make a VCD with the CD+G disk I have. My DVD player will play the disk, it doesn't show the lyrics though. It gives me a blank screen and the screen saver of course after enough time passes. The disk is a CD+G, but the files on it appear to be .cda files, not .cdg. So my plan on using cdg2avi and then using Easy VCD or something is going to have to be changed a little.
