The Price drop is only because Microsoft is replacing a specific chip on the mobo w/ one that will cost them several dollars less. I found the article on xbox-scene.com

Thats good though.. they can afford to lose money and have systems in alot more houses by 2003 im sure with that kind of price tags people will be looking at it in the holidays even more compared the current 199 price.. 199 is still a good deal though..150 or 99 whatever euros would be GREAT>

WTF the xbox is 300 euro here in holland, dropped from 450 euro(when it was first released) all the people who bought a xbox for the price of 450 euro got a flyer with which they could get a free game and a joypad i believe

All these rumours going around, I have just bought an x-box on22-8-02, if this is true, would it be advisable to take it back if the price is going down,

i highly doubt xbox is dropping price again. the new chip is a video chip for the mobo and this is supposedly so they can gain back some money while its at the 199price. the sales arent doing too bad in the us and uk, its japan thats killing em. im highly satisfied with my xbox and i bought it at launch so i payed the full 300.

I know here in AUstralia, they are launching a deal where they are selling the xbox for the original asking price(AU$399), but that includes a copy of Halo and a DVD remote kit, plus EB are also including a free dvd or your choice(no boxsets). So you effectively get the xbox for around AU$270 or so. Not bad me thinks...
