okay i found out something new, when i try windows 98 it dont work, when i try windows me dont work, but when i boot my xp it works, but i dont want xp, b/c it takes up too much gig. i downloaded both 98 and me from kazza, did i burn them wrong? could someone please tell me where i can get a working version of 98 b/c my original disc is scratched up very badly. this is the method that worked with xp

put the windows disk in the cd drive and in the bios setup change the boot sequence to boot from the cdrom first.
hope it helps.

Nope. Autorun.exe has nothing to do with booting the CD. A bootable CD-ROM is written in a special way with a boot loader image written to the beginning sectors of the CD-ROM.

Read the following thread and do what I told the last person to do that had the same problem as you.

use a friends or your desktop computer with a cdwriter installed and nero software.
make a startup disk and make a new folder and rename win and copy the windows 98 or me files to this folder.
in nero choose the bootable cd option and use the startup disk to make the boot image and then just drag the win folder across.
in your laptop boot from the cdrom first and choose the start computer with cdrom support option.
change the A: prompt to the one for your cd drive e.g e:
type CD\WIN and you end up with this
e:\win>
now type setup
if this doesn't work then type
cd\win\win98
and now type setup
or for millennium type
cd\win\win9x
and then type setup.
hope it helps.

ps as you already own the original win 98 then just buy a backup.
