Default .avi format question

sponsored links

i've downloaded quite a few films in the .avi format. do i have to convert these to .mpg before i can burn these to disc ???

also on the ones i have converted using tmpgenc when i come to burn them onto disc (using nero 5.5) it ask me to re encode them. After re-encoded them with nero i'm finding a problem with the sound. great picture though.

cheers guys

I have burnt many AVI's without converting, however I don't expect them to play on a DVD player.

If you want them to work on a DVD player then you are going to need to convert them to VCD or SVCD.

In TMPGEnc make sure that you either load the VCD/SVCD template for PAL/NTSC depending on the source or use the wizard.

Then in Nero make sure that you select VCD/SVCD and NTSC/PAL depending on what you encoded, it should then accept them just fine.

TMPGEnc has issues with VBR mp3 streams. If an AVI uses VBR mp3 for it's audio stream then you will usually get no audio when converting with TMPGEnc.

I would say this is your problem.

Try using virtualdub to extract the wave file from the avi.
Then in tmpgenc, instead of the avi as the sound source, choose the wave file.
