Default adjusting laser pot for all modchip installations - recommended ?

sponsored links

It was all but necessary when installing neo 2.2 but will it still aid in the ps2's ability to read cdr with the newer non-swap modchips such as messiah, apple, magic chip 2 etc

I have done a few installs but have never bothered with it when installing a non-swap mod but its so easy i wonder if it is a good idea to set it to 600ohms while the system is still dis-assembled
has anyone needed to do this with a non-swap or is it worth the effort ?
I've just finished a messiah install and as usual there is a little laser noise when booting cdr, so i'm gonna experiment tonight and post results
i would appreciate feedback though from anyone with any input

Personnally I've only adjusted the pots when I've needed to!

Fitted quite a few Messiah's, Neo4's, Magic2's, e.t.c. and never found the need to do it. If it boots the media up then I leave it well alone...

I'd fit your Messiah then try it out before adjusting them mate. If it read media ok before fitting the Messiah then it should do afterwards too...

Just my opinion anyway..

Hey Mike was hoping you'd jump in sometime soon

the messiah install is fine (i've done a few) and games boot fine but you can always hear the laser slugging away when reading cdr media, no more than usual but i thought it may be worth a try to smoothe it out a bit
like i said i'm gonna experiment tonight and see if it makes a difference
even if its slightly better then its worth 60 seconds of my time to adjust it

what does's everyone else think ?

Go for it.. just remember to take the reading of the pot BEFORE you adjust it, that way you can put it back if its no better.. Might just be the quality of your media thats causing the laser to struggle slightly??!?!

Would be interested on your findings though!
