Default XBMP media number of files???

hiya,, firstlly from old posts I asked if Media player could display jpegs and i think it was answered that it does. But I'm wondering if something could be explained for me here. Does the files get read into memory for some reason on start up? The reason I ask is this..
I have got a CD-RW done with media player Beta 6 and in the pictures directory are about 1,000 jpg files, and in the video folder is about 500 mpeg clips. When I turn the XBox on it comes up with the white micro$oft logo at the bottom meaning that the .xbe file has been recognised and start loading.. but then after 10 minutes still the media player hasnt come up yet.. Is this a known problem with loads of files in there? or is there a way round this? Or is my burn of xbmp crap and needs to be redone??
cheers to anyone who can shed light on this

djlins.
