I have all firewalls turned off, I can share files and printers both ways, I don't know what MTU is, and I am pretty sure I haven't changed anything of that description, and my computers are both in network neighbourhood.

I will try the route print command later on when I get home, and if still no joy, then I may reinstall both operating systems, which would be a major pain.

I think if I could just ping the host pc from the client, I would be fine, because everything else works as it should.

Thanks a lot for all the help everybody, even though I am not sorted yet, I have learned quite a bit. Cheers!

I am now laughing deliriously! I have a SHARED internet connection!!!!!!

I am so happy.

I paid my local computer genius 20 to come round and sort it out. He configured my router, found a firewall that I didn't know existed buried in my antivirus software, and now it is working fine. Huge thanks to everybody who has helped me on this thread. I am now off to bst hardware to sell my now defunct alcatel modem and 1 realtek network card.

Hooray!!

okay, I guess the main problem that you got is becuz you are not using a router, so you have to purchase two different ip addresses from you dsl company, but i don't know how can you got connected to the internet now... oh well .....

anyways, linksys is fine captin2k1, i just got all the equiment and you don't have to install any software....... it's a very easy router setup thingy, just dealing with those cabling and you will got the hook up, hook it up!!! lol

are you need to do is, hook them up, restart your computer.... and bammmmmmmmmme!!! you're connected, even with win2k and winxp...
