I just installed bf 1942 last night and the framerates are puke!!! I have a pent 4 1.6 ghz with a gforce 3 ti 200 with 768 megs of ram. I also knocked down the graphics settings and it didnt help. I am aware of a patch that is available for the game but haven't had a chance to download it yet. Ill give it a shot this afternoon after work. Gonna play around with it some more and maybe get lucky. As far as programs running in the background, not an issue. I shut down just about everything and the framerate remains the same.

OK< installed the patch, didnt help with framerates. Here is the strange thing that happened. I dont understand it for the life of me, but I hope that maybe someone else may have the answer. I tried to play online, and bingo. Excellent framerates!!!!!!! Went back to single player against the computer and framerates were terrible again.

Why the hell are the framerates fine online, but garbage against the computer? Anyone??????

OK, here's the fix First off, I tried emailing you from the forum box at the top but I dont think it worked. If you still want to email me after this post, post your email. Here is the fix:

First, lower you video settings. (has to be done on my 1.6ghz system with a gforce 3ti200 and 768 megs of ram) I run at medium.

Now, the most important thing is this: SOUND QUALITY:
It's set at 44 hz by default. (Way to high)
Turn it down to 22 hz!!! Also make sure you channels are set in the 20's.

This should do the trick for you. Let me know how you make out.

okay.... based on what u said about ur PC, to close the right progs:

first disable Norton AV
Next press Ctrl-Shift-Esc
u can diable everything except:
iexplore.exe
taskmgr.exe
navapsvc.exe (this is norton but u cant get rid of it and it only takes 700Kb when it is disabled in the corner of the screen)
devldr32.exe
msbb.exe
spoolsv.exe (printer i think but no point in gettin rid of it)
explorer.exe
ccEvtMgr.exe
svchost.exe (all of em)
lsass.exe
winlogon.exe
csrss.ese
nvsvc32.exe (nvidia 40.xx graphics drivers)
system
system idle process

these are pretty much all the things running on my PC, and BF1942 works very well on my PC wgich is reasonably similar to urs - AMD XP 2100+, 512MB PC133 Ram, GeForce 4 Ti4600 128MBDDR. I run the game at Medium detail for best results tho i can run it higher.
