I agree vcds-svcds are not the greatest of formats, but they are a good poor-mans alternative, and I dont think the dvd-dvdr market is worth making a investment in at the moment. Its still pretty new and changing all the time, just as cdr-cdburners were a couple of years ago and Look at how fast and cheap they are now

Remeber $100AUD = around 36

So that's
36 for a 40X burner.
204 for a 104 with RecordNow DX and Cyberlink PowerDVD XP V4.0 thrown in.

Celtic_druid we must be shopping at different places even so the price differential is still clear.
To me the extra cost of DVD-r isn't quite justified, however with a few more months of price reductions on DVD burners that may change.

Personally I think its whether or not u are a fan of quality. If you don't mind the quality of VCD or SVCD then fine. Some people are willing to spend the money for the quality.
