Thanks Celtic_druid i play to record a load of home DV movies on (soon to get) Philips DVDR880 then make loads of copies for my family.

You would get better quality if you captured them to your PC and then encoded them to MPEG2 and burnt them.

Really ? I have done this & TBH the quality from PC capture then encoding to mpeg using tmpeg was ok but not brill.

Are you saying that the DVDR recorders are not that good in terms of quality ??

Well when you capture DV on a PC it is lossless. When you capture DV on a DVD recorder it is lossly.

Once you take your lossless capture on your PC you can convert it to MPEG2 using much better quality settings than a DVD Recorder can such a using multipasses. You can also add chapters, menu's, etc.
